Fit

Ensuring that your Epic is properly fit to you is an important step in preparing for your first ride. Your Authorized Specialized Retailer will be able to provide a basic fit, ensuring that you are able to ride your Epic comfortably and efficiently.  With the progressive geometry of the Epic, your fit may not transfer over from your last bike.

Tire Pressure

The right tire pressure for your ride is personal and depends on your riding style, the terrain you'll be riding, and the conditions of that terrain on the day you're riding. What you see below is a recommended starting point, a "ballpark." You'll also see a decal on your wheels indicating max pressure. Never exceed the max pressure. Enjoy your ride!

Generally speaking, lower tire pressures provide better control on wet or loose terrain, as well as a smoother ride. Higher tire pressures provide better puncture protection. Check your tires frequently to ensure your tire pressure is in the appropriate range.

What you see below is a recommendation of a starting point pressure, a "ballpark" if you will, based on rider + gear weight and tire width. You'll also see a decal on your wheels indicating maximum inflation pressure. Never exceed the maximum inflation pressure of your tires or rims. Enjoy your ride!

Mountain Tire Pressure Data Table

*Crossed out cells: tire size not recommended, as the rider's weight may require a tire pressure that is too high for the tire or rim.

Tubeless Conversion

Many riders chose to convert their tires to tubeless before riding off-road.  Tubeless tires allow riders to use lower inflation pressure without the risk of damaging a tube from impacts.

Auto-Sag & Fork pressure

The Epic Brain shock features an Auto-Sag feature to help you set the proper air pressure:

  1. Set the brain fade adjuster to the softest setting.
  2. With a high-pressure pump, inflate the rear shock air canister to 250psi
  3. Remove the pump and reinstall the valve cap.
  4. Ask a friend to stabilize the bike so you can sit on the bike with your full weight.
  5. Open the Auto-Sag knob on the shock.
  6. Press and hold the Auto-Sage knob until air stops flowing.
  7. Close the Auto-Sag knob.

Fork pressure should be set based on the manufacturer recommendations.  Air pressure charts are often provided on a sticker attached to the fork leg.
