Our Rider Care team is repeatedly asked what to look for when choosing a vehicle bike rack. Since we are not experts in this area, we can only point out a few general aspects. Please seek advice from the relevant specialists or suitable sources, such as your local Specialized retailer, car dealerships, car accessories dealers, bicycle magazines, product tests, etc.

General tips

  • Do not clamp carbon frames and thinner-walled aluminum frames. Clamping is at your own risk.
  • Preferably secure your bike by the wheels, dropouts, and seat post. If there is any bike-to-rack or bike-to-bike contact, you may wish to provide padding to prevent paint damage.
  • Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and restrictions (e.g., weight limits) on the carrier system.
  • When transporting an e-bike, remove the bike batteries when possible and transport them inside the vehicle.
  • Avoid high speeds, especially when the road is wet, in order to protect bearings, suspension, etc.
  • Preferably transport your bike inside the car if possible.
  • Since no manufacturer designs a bike for vehicle transport, damage caused by carrier systems or the transport itself is not covered by the warranty.
