STRUCTURAL WEIGHT LIMIT
For full details refer to 2022 Rider/Bike Weight Limits and Terrain Conditions

Refers to total rider weight + cargo weight:

  • 4.0 models: 300 lb / 136 kg
  • 5.0 models: 275 lb / 125 kg

Cargo weight limits:

  • Front: 0 lb / 0 kg
  • Rear: 55 lb / 25 kg (standard rack is limited to 15 kg)

COMPATIBLE REAR RACK ACCESSORIES (EQ VERSION)

YES

The Specialized Vado SL rear rack features two pannier rails with a diameter of 10 mm. They are compatible with:

Notes on default rack (EQ models)

  • Custom Racktime aluminum rack
  • Rack is connected to rear fender
  • Max. 15kg load
  • Compatible with Racktime SnapIT accessories such as bags and baskets
  • Compatible with hooked straps
  • Panniers are supported by two rack stays, so that they do not get into the spokes
  • Panniers cannot rub against frame (rack creates space between rear end and pannier backside)

UPGRADING NON EQ-MODELS TO RACK/FENDER

YES

Note that upgrading requires a custom solution. Please talk to your local Retailer to explore possible solutions.

Upgrading with a rack

  • Requires the custom Vado SL rack/fender set or another custom solution where rack and fender are one unit
  • Frames do not offer mounting points to connect a horizontal rack strut to the upper seat stays

Upgrading with fenders

  • Possible with matching fender set (recommended: Specialized DryTech 35c)
  • Note that carbon forks on Vado SL 5.0 models require a DryTech fender set to direct-mount the stays in the fork dropout (Plug&Play)

LOCK COMPATIBILITY

U-lock

Frame lock

YES

Folding lock

3 mounting options:

  1. Double diamond frames

    • to underside of  top tube (see image and notes below)

    • to seat tube (instead of bottle cage and depending on frame/lock size)
  2. Step-through frames
    • to upper side of top tube
  3. All frames

    • to downtube (instead of bottle cage)

Example in image: Abus Bordo in holder with clutching strap to secure to underside of top tube

Notes:

  • Vado SL frames were updated with top tube rivet nuts for lock mounting mid-production. This means that not all frames in the field have those rivet nuts.
  • Frames featuring those rivet nuts accept a folding lock without use of additional straps
  • The lock mounting position depends on frame size and use of a Range Extender/water bottle on the seat tube. Tests use Bordo 6500xPlus.
    • Frame sizes Small and Medium
      • Use of RE requires forward mounting lock position
      • No RE: both forward and backward mounting of the Lock.
    • Frame sizes Large and X-Large:
      • Both forward and backward position are possible with an RE mounted to the seat tube

YES

U-lock

  • Many U-Locks can be mounted to frames without mounting tabs, using frame straps such as the Abus USKF bracket; most U-locks come with such a type of frame strap mounting or use a holder that mounts to water bottle threads.
  • If you want to use a Range Extender battery, this may not be a viable solution. Always check available space in frame

PARTLY

Frame lock

  • There are no tabs in the seat stays; Frame lock needs to be mounted with adaptors, e.g. Abus clutching straps.
