Flip Chips and Geometry Changes
The geometry of the Kenevo SL can be modified by adjusting the Horst flip chips and adjustable headset cup. The flip chips are located on both sides of the chainstay near the Horst pivot and the headset cup is located in the upper head tube bearing bore.
The Horst pivot flip chips adjust the chainstay length and bottom bracket height. The headset cup slackens or steepens the head tube angle.
The adjustable headset cup is found in the small parts box supplied with the bicycle.
Adjustment Point | Chainstay Length | Bottom Bracket Height | Head Tube Angle |
---|---|---|---|
Horst pivot (high) | + 0 mm | + 0 mm | + 0° |
Horst pivot (low) | + 5 mm | - 7 mm | - 0.5° |
Headset (standard) | + 0 mm | + 0 mm | + 0° |
Headset (slack) | + 0 mm | - 2 mm | - 1° |
Headset (steep) | + 0 mm | + 2 mm | + 1° |
Adjusting the Horst Pivot Flip Chip
- Remove the Horst pivot bolt (A in image below) from the frame
- Remove all four flip clips (B) and align the Horst pivot spacer to either the "high" or "low" position. Make sure the spacer is correctly aligned and both parts are in the same direction
- Reinstall the flip chips and make sure they are fully seated and aligned with the chainstay protector before tightening the bolt
- Torque the pivot bolt to 10Nm / 90 in-lbf
Adjusting the Head Tube Angle
The head tube angle can be adjusted with the adjustable headset cup. The bike is shipped with the zero degree offset cup installed (A). The +/- 1 degree headset cup (B) is in the small parts box.
The headset uses standard bearings, with a 1 1/8" upper bearing and a 1 1/2" lower bearing.
To change the headset cups:
- Loosen the stem bolts (A) that attach the stem to the fork steerer
- Loosen and remove the top cap bolt (B) and cap
- Remove the stem (C) and spacers from the fork steerer (D) and remove the fork from the frame
- Remove the zero offset cup from the head tube and replace with the +/- 1 degree headset cup. The offset is etched onto the headset cup. Orient the offset you prefer toward the front of the bike.
*Note, you do not need to change the bottom headset cup as it works with all upper headset cup options - Install the headset parts and bearings into the frame (A: headset cover, B: compression ring, C: upper bearing, D: adjustable headset cup)
- Reassemble the stem assembly:
- Slide the fork steerer (D) through the head tube and headset parts
- Install the spacers and stem (C) onto the fork steerer
- Install the top cap and thread the compression bolt (B) into the star nut in the fork. Tighten the bolt until all parts are snug and settled. The stem should rotate freely, but there should be no fore/aft play in the system
- Pull the front brake and rock the bike back and forth to ensure everything is well seated
- Re-tighten the headset compression bolt if needed
- Torque stem bolts (A) to 5 Nm or 44 in-lbf
